Oh lord I just can't seem to come up with an idea for my blog post for August for Scrap Your Scraps. I seem to be suffering from some kind of creative block or something. On the plus side though all of the other fantastic ladies have come up with some terrific ideas, so why not check it out! The latest post is about using acrylic paints on a layout, and I decided to do a contributing layout, here it is . . .
Don't forget to go check out the wonderful post written by creative team member Tiffany over at the blog Scrap Your Scraps
I'm also a design team member at Sketch 'N' Scrap so why not stop over and get some terrific sketch inspiration. There are also some great challenges going on, with some awesome prizes, but you can't win if you don't play, so click on the link above to find out how to play!
So my first ever contribution to the awesome blog Sketch-N-Scrap is now up! Basically how it works is twice a month we create layouts based on the sketches showcased on the blog for the month. It's been a long time since I've worked from a sketch, but I have to say I am 100% loving it! I had forgotten how easy and quick it can be to get a page done when I already have an idea of what the finished product looks like.
Here is the sketch for July 1st . . .
. . . and here is my take on the sketch!
So for this layout I kept the background papers the same, but I ended up re-arranging the photos to better fit the sizes I had. I also slightly changed where the embellishments would go and which side the photos would be on. The great thing about sketches is that they are a jumping off point as well as a guide. Wanna follow 'em to the letter, be our guest. Wanna use 'em for inspiration and change 'em up to suit what you're doing, well that's just fine too! Don't forget to hop on over to Sketch-N-Scrap to check out all the other fantastic entries and to get inspired to start scrapping!
Between a full time job and my blog commitments to the awesome Sketch-N-Scrap and Scrap Your Scraps I have been pretty busy, so I figured I'd just put up some layouts I did back in May that I never got around to previously posting.
My first post for Scrap Your Scraps is up and I'm so happy!!! Just click on my link to see the entire post, but while you're here you can see the final piece.

Well, not really. I just like cake, and I like making homemade cakes for my kids birthdays. When I was growing up my mom always made my sister (twin) and I homemade cakes. They were nothing special, just a two layer white cake with homemade icing, maybe some candles. It's the type of cake though that I have grown up on and love. The recipe is from my Nana and so is the icing recipe and now it's what I make for my kids. I may not be able to have an all out crazy awesomely decorated Pinterest inspired parties, but I can at least make them a fun cake. I don't usually go for shaped cakes or character can pans that you can rent, there is just never enough cake! I try to go as simple as possible, but this was the first year I used fondant. I don't know the first thing about working with fondant, or even how to make it, but I found some amazing recipes online and couldn't believe how quick it came together. Now I did have to tweak it a bit to get it to turn out perfectly, mostly adding more icing sugar so it would stop sticking, but other than that it was great, and tasty too!
This video was extremely helpful when it came to making the fondant, and now for the cake reveal!
It's not bad if I do say so myself :) Lily loves owls, and loves to point them out, and since she was a little too young to really have a theme she wanted we just did some colourful decorations and I made her this owl cake. It doesn't hurt that mommy loves owls too!
So as of now I am a member of the creative team over at Scrap Your Scraps. This is very exciting for me as this the first time I've ever been on a creative team and I'm loving it! Every month I'll be blogging about a fun technique or trick or interesting way to use up some of those scraps, as well as organization tips and tricks. Be sure to come check us out and take a look at all the fantastic ladies who are joining me to bring you some great layouts, designs, and ideas!
